Meghal Patel, MPH '07
Meghal Patel, an MPH candidate in the SPH Department of Epidemiology, was headed for med school from NYU. But he decided to first assist with rebuilding of homes in Sri Lanka following the devastating 2004 Tsunami that struck countries adjacent to the Indian Ocean.
"It was a career-redefining experience for me," states Meghal. His dedication to international public health became reality, as he returned to New Jersey to pursue the MPH degree.
"I knew I had made the right choice by the end of the first semester when I had finalized plans to go with a group of SPH students from the school to the Dominican Republic. We spent a week in the DR working with the Crossroads Mission to help feed and treat the local poor. This second experience in international public health helped further direct my career plans."
