Vaccine Preventable Diseases
On Monday, July 13, 2009, a one-day conference entitled Vaccine Preventable Diseases - Evidence and Strategies to Protect Our Communities will be held that will focus on issues related to immunizations required for NJ children.
This one-day conference will be held simultaneously at three locations in NJ:

Objectives
• Describe the consequences of
opting out of vaccination for preventable diseases.
• Compare the costs of preventing an epidemic
with the costs of containing one based on a case of measles in NJ.
• Share the profound issues of both
surviving polio and losing a twin to the now preventable disease.
• Characterize the preventable infectious diseases
that can result from failure to immunize or from insufficient immunity to them.
• Compare and contrast the antigen components of earlier vaccines
with those of today, highlighting at least one benefit of newer antigen component vaccine formulations.
• Describe N.J.A.C. 8:57 – 4, the regulations that the
NJ Department of Health and Senior Services will monitor and enforce.
• Provide examples of strategies/take home messages
which may be used to convince others to follow the recommended immunization schedules.

Continuing Education
Participants who complete the program will be awarded 6.0 Professional Development Hours by the Center for Professional Development in Nursing and Health (CPDNH). Continuing Nursing Education Contact hours have been applied for through the New Jersey State Nurses Association, an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Application has been made for approval for 6.0 Category I Continuing Education Credits for CHES by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Public Health. The UMDNJ-SPH has been designated as a provider of continuing education in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.
Application has been made to the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services for CE contact hours toward the HO/REHS continuing education requirements.
